Responsibilities

What You'll Do:

The Psychiatrist is responsible for providing court ordered psychiatric evaluations of patients at the Crisis Response Center, in person or via telehealth.  While uncommon, the Psychiatrist may be required to testify regarding their evaluation via videoconference at a COT hearing.  Qualified candidates will be familiar with A.R.S. Title 36 as it pertains to COE/COT processes and procedures.  The Psychiatrist will not direct, coordinate, or provide medical/clinical services to assigned patients within the facility.  This provider will be able to perform evaluations as necessary for patients on the Observation or Inpatient Units, depending on the need of the facility.

  • Complete court ordered psychiatric evaluations (COEs) as needed on the CRC Observation or Inpatient unit.  Evaluations may take place in person or via telemedicine per the Psychiatrist’s availability.  The court ordered psychiatric evaluation will provide a recommendation for or against placing the individual on COT, as well as a diagnosis or diagnoses, assessment, and treatment recommendations.  The evaluation may also include assessments of capacity for consent to treatment, risk assessments, patient education, progress toward treatment goals, and discharge planning including medical, psychological, social, behavioral, and developmental aspects of the consumer’s care, treatment, and services.
  • Review the health assessments completed by nursing staff.
  • Obtain a past and current medical history and perform pertinent review of systems, as indicated, according to established guidelines.
  • Initiate contact with the Primary Care Physicians and Emergency Room clinicians according to professional standards and established guidelines.
  • Initiate contact with Outpatient Behavioral Health Provider according to established guidelines.
  • Review and utilize all available documents from the crisis clinical team.
  • Collaborate with Interdisciplinary staff to ensure each treatment modality is appropriate for the patient.
  • Work closely with the COE Program Manager to ensure COE unit is operating optimally.
  • Escalate complicated cases to CRC Medical Director or designee as clinically indicated, based on the Psychiatrist’s clinical judgment.
  • Work with the community to review involuntary petitions, assess involuntary patients, and coordinate with the legal system to follow established guidelines for Court Ordered Evaluation and Treatment.
  • In addition to evaluating the patient undergoing COE, the psychiatrist will review information available in the EHR, which will include social, medical, and psychiatric history, test results, collateral information obtained by the treating team, and the petition for court-ordered evaluation.  The psychiatrist will be expected to utilize this information to help render an opinion as to whether the patient requires court-ordered treatment (COT) and include a summary of this information in the affidavit submitted to the court.
  • The Psychiatrist may be called to testify in court following filing of the affidavit; testimony may take place in person, telephonically, or via audio-visual platform, based on the needs of the court.  However, teleconferencing is the most common and default method of appearing in the hearing.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring:

  • Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine.
  • 4 years of post-doctoral experience, to include approved psychiatric residency training programs, in the delivery of mental health treatment to children, adolescents, and/or adults.
  • Currently licensed by the State of Arizona.
  • Board certified in Psychiatry.
  • Familiar with A.R.S. Title 36 as it pertains to COE/COT processes and procedures.
  • The Company has a mandatory vaccination policy. All successful applicants must be fully vaccinated, including showing proper documentation, or otherwise be exempt pursuant to the Company’s exemption process prior to their start date as a condition of employment
