Job Summary

This position works as a member of a community based mobile crisis response team providing mental health assessment to a wide variety of individuals who are experiencing a mental health crisis in a variety of settings, as well as ensuring follow up care. The candidate is required to work very closely with local law enforcement in the prevention of detention by law enforcement, inappropriate use of emergency services, and psychiatric hospitalization. The candidate is required to collaborate with community agencies for supportive care.

 

Mobile Crisis Responders will provide crisis stabilization services to a variety of individuals in a variety of settings. Knowledge and ability to assess availability of and make appropriate referral to community resources, to interact in a professional manner with a number of professional and consumer groups, often in stressful circumstances, and to prioritize and to respond appropriately to simultaneous demands is essential.

 

Essential Functions

  • Assess mental status, risk, and clinical needs of person in distress using independent determinations that could have significant ramifications and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Provides assistance to and collaborates with law enforcement on mental health related calls through the clinical assessment process, gathering of relevant collateral information, providing of resources to individuals and families, and coordination with community providers
  • Provide emergency psychotherapy, evaluate clinical need for hospitalization, and evaluate appropriateness for involuntary treatment according to legal criteria
  • Demonstrates proficient knowledge of the principles and practices, theories, laws and authorities of counseling and social work that include: therapeutic theories, community resources; health care records management; interpersonal relations; common safety hazards and precautions; and the ability to apply knowledge; maintain accurate charts and records; handle sensitive and confidential information; respond to emergency situations; and establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Provides a variety of crisis intervention and prevention services in community setting, including jails, hospitals, and private settings. Services will include crisis counseling and case management, consultation, transportation, and documentation of all services provided
  • Maintains current knowledge of community resources for individuals and families
  • Provides follow-up and coordination of care for individuals in distress
  • May provide written reports to county attorney and court and/or testify in court in civil commitment cases

Position Specifications

  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • Must be licensed or license eligible as LCPC or LCSW in the State of Montana
    • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable under company policy
    • Must have valid certification or complete training of the following:
      • First Aid and CPR
      • De-escalation Training
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience with mental health crises
    • Certified Mental Health Professional in the State of Montana

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Possible exposure to blood, body fluid or tissues; cuts or sticks by needles or other sharps; to fumes or airborne particles; or to toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Protective clothing or equipment is required including gloves and protective eyewear.
